About Sigma Comics

Humans have superheroes. Animals don’t. While humans may be destroying our planet, they aren’t on the verge of extinction. Many animals are. Sigma Comics was created to give a stronger voice to a group that cohabitates this planet with us, yet are routinely encroached upon, threatened, abused and killed. Through both print and digital mediums, Sigma Comics creates and distributes stories inspired by actual events, which often receive very little media coverage in the news. The stories are graphic, violent and uncensored, exactly as they would occur in real life. As such, our comic books are made strictly for mature audiences.

A New Kind of Comic Book Publisher
As our name suggests, we’re not keen on playing by the “rules.” We don’t believe in conforming to comic book industry standards. We do things our way. In fact, we believe the comic book industry is riddled with problems, and this medium, which for many decades has been an intrinsic part of the American cultural fabric, is fading away. Gone are the days when you could stroll down to the corner store, pick up a handful of comics and count on action-packed, compelling storylines at a fair price. This is why we craft our comic books chock full of energy and emotion, replete with literary and graphical talent, for a price that won’t hurt your pocket, wallet, purse, fanny pack or wherever you store your loose change…because that’s all you’ll need. A Rich History
Company founder, H.H. German, a former boxer from The Bronx, was inspired by the stories he read in comic books as a child, from which he gained a dynamic vocabulary and a searing motivation to overcome bullying in a tough neighborhood in The Bronx. Early on, many of these comic books were purchased through a mail-order advertisement, by his father Aurelio, who worked late hours in a local hospital. A New York minute goes by faster than most and Aurelio German was grateful to have the mail-order option in times when the newsstand was already closed. That mail-order business was owned by the legendary Robert Bell, a pioneer in the comic book industry, and the inventor of the comic book “Price List” and comic book sleeves. A true innovator, when Robert Bell saw a problem, he didn’t consult the industry, or ask their permission to conform to a standard. He just created a solution. His advertisements in comic books from the late 1960s to the early 1980s were a big game changer in the industry and opened up comic books to a much wider audience. For this reason, we chose to make our logo the iconic symbol of the first ‘non-industry type’ Sigma of the comic book industry; the heroic Sigma featured in all of Robert Bell’s legendary advertisements…given with Mr. Bell’s full support.

A graduate of the world-renowned School of Visual Arts in New York City, Mr. German received direct guidance from comic book legend Klaus Janson in creating CALICO Vol 1: PIN-UP GALLERY. “Klaus was the first person to see CALICO,” says German. “I was never his student when I attended SVA in the 90s, yet when I reached out for help, he was there for me.” Slated for a Christmas 2020 release date, CALICO Vol 1: PIN-UP GALLERY is the first series from Sigma Comics, and represents a notable departure from the comic book titles of today. With a retail price of only $2.99, at a time when many comic books sell for upwards of $4-$5, the series is printed on newsprint for a throwback effect. “Hardcore comic book fans are going to love it,” says German.
